AILA Subject Access and Classification Committee wiki

NOTE: In 2010 the AILA Subject Access and Classification Committee was changed from a standing committee to an ad hoc committee which can be convened on a project by project basis by the AILA executive board. This space was used from 2006-2010 as the group wiki.

Charge

The committee was charged with facilitating improved access to information about Native Americans by identifying ways to improve existing subject headings/thesauri and classification schemes, and identifying and developing alternatives to these.

Committee Initiatives

  • Subject Headings (information about the committees work to improve Library of Congress subject headings)
  • Classification (the beginnings of a wishlist regarding improvement to Library of Congress classification)

Resources

  • Bibliography (resources about indigenous cataloging issues)
  • Thesauri (alternatives for libraries serving indigenous communities)
  • Classification Schemes (alternatives for libraries serving indigenous communities)
